INSTALLATIONS YEAR ROUND
For decades, the go-to solution for finishing garage floors and other rooms with concrete slabs was epoxy. Epoxy is strong and durable, and made sense at the time. However, technology improves, and there's now a better, longer lasting option: polyaspartic floor coating.
Polyaspartic coatings are a relatively new invention, first created in the 90s and popularized in recent years. It costs a little bit more than epoxy, but that's really the only downside. Otherwise, a polyaspartic coating is a perfect solution for finishing a concrete floor.
1 - Fast curing times = fast installation
One of the biggest problems with epoxy is that it is slow to cure and harden. Even in the best of situations, it can take 48-72 hours to be usable, and inclement weather (such as high humidity) can push that up to 4-5 days. Cure time can be as long as 30 days.
Meanwhile, polyaspartic coatings will cure in less than 24 hours in almost any situation. Installation can typically be finished within a single day even in cold temperatures.
2 - Fewer temperature restrictions
Epoxy is also very temperamental about temperature. If the outside temperatures are too high or too low, it won't properly harden - which further adds to the install time. On the other hand, polyaspartic coatings will cure in pretty much any temperature naturally found on Earth.
This also means it can be installed any time of year, whereas epoxy frequently can't be used in summer and\or winter, depending on local climate.
3 - No dangerous fumes or VOCs
Another genuine problem with epoxy is that it's dangerous to install, due to toxic fumes and the release of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). People typically have to wear full hazmat gear when installing epoxy in a large indoor space.
That's simply not the case with polyaspartic coatings. They're much safer to install, and there's far less risk of VOCs becoming an issue over time.
4 - Even higher strength
Epoxy is strong, but brittle causing peeling from hot tires in a garage. It's relatively easy to damage if heavy objects are dropped on it. Polyaspartic floor coatings lack this vulnerability and stay flexible. Properly applied, they can be up to ten times stronger and more resilient than epoxy, giving them incredible long-term value.
